Newspaper publishers join forces to create and share content

Plans are afoot to establish a media cooperative to produce content for 12 local newspapers. According to participating publisher Alma Media, Lännen Media (Western Media) will pool the resources of contributing media houses to produce local content and services.

Six Finnish newspaper publishers are planning to step up their journalistic cooperation by establishing an organisation to be known as Lännen Media, which will produce domestic and international news content for a dozen local newspapers.

The cooperation will bring together 12 dailies published produced by six publishers: Aamulehti, Satakunnan Kansa, Lapin Kansa, Kainuun Sanomat, Pohjolan Sanomat, Turun Sanomat, Kaleva, Ilkka, Pohjalainen, Hämeen Sanomat, Forssan Lehti and Keskipohjanmaa.

The cooperation model will see the new media company operating along the lines of a local news agency, produce national content covering diverse subjects including politics, business and society news. Lännen Media will also provide foreign news, weekend content, themed pages and national online news.

Lännen Media will be staffed by a total of 40 reporters.
