In May, the general increase in the price of consumer goods and services slowed down to 0.8 percent, according to Statistics Finland.  Inflation slowed down primarily because prices of vegetables decreased.

Since the start of the year Finland’s rate of inflation has been decreasing. In March and April it was still at 1.1 percent, while in February it was 1.3 percent and in January it was 1.6 percent.

In the Eurozone, the average rate of inflation in May was 0.5 percent.

The European Central Bank (ECB) aims to maintain price stability. In the beginning of June, the ECB announced new measures for keeping inflation rates of below, but close to 2 percent, over the medium term.
