Ice hockey heavyweight Teemu Selänne became the first Anaheim Duck to have his game shirt raised to the rafters of the Anaheim Ducks’ home stadium at the Honda Centre Sunday night.
The fanfare was the fitting end to a 21-year career that closed last season. The observance held the distinction of also being the longest shirt-raising ceremony on record, pushing the NHL fixture between the Ducks and the Winnipeg Jets back by an hour and a half.
Selänne was joined during the event by compatriot and five-time Stanley Cup winner Jari Kurri, who delivered some remarks on the occasion.
Nicknamed "the Finnish Flash," the right-winger played 966 games with the Ducks and helped them to their first and so far only Stanley Cup win in 2007.
