176 Finnish companies filed for bankruptcy in July, 2015. That figure has not been below 200 since the year 2011.

A six-month report also shows a downturn in company bankruptcies – the 1,650 firms liquidating their assets in that time represent a 14 percent decrease. According to Suomen Asiakastieto Oy the last time the number was under 1,000 was seven years ago.

"The weakest ones have fallen and the companies that are left are mostly balancing their act," says vice CEO Heikki Koivula. "That's why the number of firms going backrupt is falling, even though a concrete turn for the better has yet to be seen."

In terms of municipalities bankruptcies have risen in only South and North Karelia, Central Ostrobothnia and Åland.
