Finns Party vice chair's emergency meeting idea shot down

The Finns Party board discussed third vice chair Sebastian Tynkkynen's plea for an emergency policy meeting on Friday, and voted 11-2 against. Following the vote Tynkkynen avoided press representatives.

On Friday the Finns Party board rejected the party's vice chair Sebastian Tynkkynen's move to gun for an emergency meeting on their continuing presence in the coalition government. Tynkkynen's initiative was voted out at 11 votes to 2.

Only party member Aleksi Hernesniemi voted for the meeting in addition to Tynkkynen.

Tynkkynen raced off

Both Hernesniemi and third vice chair Tynkkynen left the meeting in a hurry and declined to comment on the outcome of the vote or its repercussions to the press. An Yle video shows Tynkkynen walking off briskly and brushing off reporters by saying that more information would be forthcoming later and that he himself would not comment.

Both party chair Timo Soini and party secretary Riikka Slunga-Poutsalo were also very brief after the meet and had nothing to say on the outcome of the vote.

Tynkkynen, who as of now is still the party's third vice chair, has vied for the Finns Party to take their affairs better in hand following several anti-policy turns over a Greek bailout and immigration, which also go against the official government programme.

The Finns Party will hold a regular board meeting in a week's time. One talking point will be Tynkkynen's initiative.
