A new mobile phone manufacturer with American founders has set up shop in the city of Salo, known once for being the spiritual and also literal home of the Nokia concern, bought last year by Microsoft.
The company, Turing Robotic Industries (TRI), is intimately tied to Finnish mobile expertise, as it has chosen the domestic Sailfish operating system, by Jolla, as its primary interface.
The local paper Salon Seudun Sanomat reported the new business in the wake of rumours that new device manufacturing facilities may be established in the city.
In its marketing Turing says that its smart phone unit is situated in Helsinki. The company's actual address is in a sky scraper in San Francisco, California.
The upcoming Turing Phone is the American company's first smart phone project, and is being crowd-funded by its supporters. Security is the byword of TRI's debut product, as the phone boasts a casing tougher than steel and sophisticated cyber security.
The Turing Phone is meant to be out no earlier than April, but because the company has postponed its releases in the past as well, springtime may or may not be when the phone is released.
For the Finnish phone company Jolla the collaboration is important, but not the only game in town, as the company woks with the likes of Intex, India's largest phone manufacturer.
