Defense and aeronautical equipment manufacturer Patria will provide carbon-fiber components for the fins of Airbus A320 aircraft, the company announced on Thursday.
The components will be manufactured at the company's Jämsä facility, in order to use automated laminating equipment needed for the job.
Patria Aerostructures' Petri Hepola says that once the project gets started it will employ some 20 workers and the new Airbus contract is worth tens of millions of euros.
Hepola says that the A320 is the world's best-selling passenger airplane and that Airbus produces about 600 of the jets each year.
He says that Airbus plans to deliver some 700 A320s until the year 2018.
"Airbus' order books for the A320 are filled for [the next] eight-and-a-half years, which shows how significant this deal is," Hepola says.
Patria Aerostructures also produces composite-based components for Airbus models A330, A380 AND A400M airplanes and NH90 helicopters - as well as for the Swedish aerospace and defence firm Saab.
