No charges will be brought against National Coalition Party (NCP) MP Wille Rydman in relation to a suspected rape, Finland's National Prosecution Authority said in a statement on Friday.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) opened a preliminary investigation into Rydman in July, saying the suspected offence took place in 2015 and that the alleged victim was not underage at the time.
In its statement on Friday, the prosecutor's office said that the preliminary investigation showed "that there are no probable grounds to support the suspect's guilt".
The press release added that, due to the sensitive nature of the case, prosecutors will not be disclosing any further information.
In June, Helsingin Sanomat reported claims by several women that Rydman had used his political position to gain access to and harass young women and girls.
Rydman then announced his resignation from the NCP parliamentary group "until further notice".
Rydman told Yle on Friday that the prosecutor's decision not to proceed with the case was expected.
He added that he hopes the decision will lead to a reconsideration of his position within the National Coalition Party, as he also confirmed that he will be running as a parliamentary candidate for the party in Helsinki.
Rydman filed an investigation request with police in August in relation to the Helsingin Sanomat article.
