Finnish Customs and the police in southwestern Finland have wrapped up an investigation into a group suspected of importing and distributing cannabis in the country.

The outfit, run from Spain, relied on commercial courier services in addition to other means of transport. The ring is suspected of having imported more than 230 kilograms of cannabis to Finland, according to Customs.

The street value of the narcotics that ended up in Turku and the Uusimaa region is close to four million euros.

Tero Virtanen, the investigator in charge, said in a statement, that cannabis was imported from Spain and Italy to Finland using express courier shipments.

"Based on the preliminary investigation we carried out, the organisation's activities were managed from Spain and typically the individuals contacted each other via various instant messaging services," Virtanen added.

More than 15 individuals are suspected of having participated in the activities of the organisation.

Last summer, officials confiscated some 40 kilograms of cannabis and 95,000 euros in cash from the drug ring.
