The costs associated with owning a summer cottage are highest this year in Kangasala, Kuopio and Savonlinna, according to a new report from the association for house owners.

In those municipalities, cottage owners will pay some 1,250 euros in property taxes, electricity costs and refuse collection fees.

The cheapest place to own a cottage is Oulu, where these basic costs come to around 662 euros. The costs are similar to those recorded in 2022, according to the report.

Other expensive councils include Mikkeli, Asikkala, Hämeenlinna and Pargas. At the more affordable end of the scale, Kouvola, Pori, Rovaniemi and Raseborg are noted for lower costs.

The association says that costs have risen over the last year, with the average increase at around 8.6 percent. The most significant increase is electricity, although it has fallen in some municipalities, including Rovaniemi.

The comparison included the 20 municipalities with the largest number of cottages. They host more than a quarter of all summer cottages in Finland.
