Fans of the northern lights were treated to an impressive display across many parts of Finland on Monday night.
The phenomenon was particularly strong in northern parts of the country, but the aurora were evident over central and southern regions too.
"Intense solar flares coming from the sun increased geomagnetic activity to the level of a small geomagnetic storm," the Finnish Meteorological Institute's (FMI) Petteri Pyykkö explained.
He added that the intensity of the activity will continue over the next few days, but clouds will unfortunately obstruct the view for stargazers in many parts of Finland.
Skies are however predicted to be clear in the west, Pyykkö noted, and less cloudy in the east.
The aurora activity will gradually decrease towards the end of the week.
"There's still a moderate chance [of seeing the Northern Lights] on Wednesday and Thursday, but then it tapers off. After that, the activity will return to normal," Pyykkö said.
