The All Points North podcast gets attacked by hungry seagulls at Helsinki's Herring Festival this week as it explores recent controversy around the oily little fish.
We ask whether people in Finland can keep eating herring as the country faces an EU-proposed herring fishing ban in waters close to Finland.
While WWF Finland told the show that the herring stocks in the Baltic Sea were not doing too well, a ministry official said that the government plans to fight the EU Commission's proposed restriction, arguing that it was not grounded in science.

We also hear from Yle News' Ronan Browne, who is getting to know APN's listeners in Finnish Lapland. "It was said that if you wanted the Northern Lights to come closer, you could whistle," he said of aurora borealis legends in the region.
The show also makes a pop culture pilgrimage to Tikkurila to behold a new mural of Finland's Eurovision sensation, Käärijä.
"I think he won people's hearts because he stood out from all the other artists by being himself," one of the painters behind the mural explained.
