Russian President Vladimir Putin denied Russian involvement in the Balticconnector gas pipeline incident, Reuters reported on Friday.

At a press conference, Putin said suspicions of Russian involvement in the pipeline damage are "nonsense". He also claimed that he had never heard of the pipeline before.

Putin also said that the discussion about the Balticconnector damage was merely an attempt to divert the debate away from the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage.

Putin blamed the Nord Stream pipeline damage last year on the West.

Interior Ministry cordons off LNG port

In a press release on Friday, the Finnish Ministry of the Interior announced that it is preparing to impose movement restrictions in the port area of Inkoo where a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal is located.

Similar movement restriction areas under the Police Act typically include airports, prisons, transmission stations, power plants and factories.

With the Balticconnector pipeline not operational, the importance of LNG terminals has increased.
