Former Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) announced on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) that she permanently changed her residency from Tampere to Helsinki this week.

Once the change of residency has been processed, Marin's right to serve as a city councillor in Tampere will expire.

Marin said she is applying to resign from the Tampere City Council, of which she has been a long-standing member since 2012 and also served as its former chair.

In September, Marin asked to resign from her post as MP because of her new position as a strategic adviser to the Tony Blair Institute. Marin's decision drew both praise and criticism at the time.
