Electricity production at the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power facility was interrupted at around 7pm on Sunday due to a fault detected in the turbine plant, operator Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) has said in a statement.

OL3 is expected to resume regular electricity production at noon on Tuesday, 21 November, TVO added.

The turbine plant stopped automatically after a fault was detected, the statement said.

"In the research, the cause of the fault was revealed to be a malfunctioning temperature measurement in the generator's cooling system. After the repair work, further inspections and testing will be conducted at the facility," TVO's statement said.

"The incident had no impact on nuclear safety," the operator added.

Olkiluoto 3 is located at Eurajoki in western Finland and is the largest single power plant unit in the Nordic electricity system. It is also the largest nuclear power plant unit in Europe and the third largest in the world.
