The Olkiluoto nuclear power plant produced around 31 percent of the electricity used in Finland last year, operator Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) announced in a press release on Wednesday.

Located in Eurajoki, in Finland's southwest, TVO's Olkiluoto facility features three nuclear reactors.

Together, they generated a total of 24.67 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity, the largest production volume in the facility's history.

"[It] was an historically great year for Olkiluoto. All three plant units of Olkiluoto are now in operation with a combined power output of about 3,380 megawatts," the company's SVP of Electricity Production, Marjo Mustonen, said in the release.

Following 14 years of construction delays, Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) started regular electricity production in mid-April of 2023, by far producing the most electricity of the facility's three units.

OL3 was offline for a total of four days after regular production started, according to the company. During the months it was online in 2023, it generated 10.37 TWh of electricity. In other words, OL3 was behind 42 percent of the facility's output.

Meanwhile the older plant units OL1 and OL2 produced 7.42 TWh and 6.87 TWh, respectively.

The company said that apart from two unplanned disruptions in production in November, OL3 has run smoothly.

OL1 produced slightly more electricity than it has in previous years, but OL2's output was impacted by a fault detected in August.
