On Saturday afternoon in Helsinki's Pasila neighbourhood a passer-by noticed an S Group food delivery robot huddled between a snowbank and a parked car.
According to the passer-by, who prefers not to be identified, the robot had been driving on an unplowed sidewalk, when the edge of the sidewalk ushered it towards a car. The slipperiness of the sidewalk prevented the robot from moving.
"Then it lurched back and forth against the side of the car, with the safety flag happily waving."
Both doors of the car were scratched and the passer-by lifted the robot onto the roadway, where it fled the scene.
"I notified the emergency center about a 'traffic accident.' The businesslike but amused emergency operator said he would notify the police. The police called, asked for identification and said that this incident was a career first."
The S Group uses delivery robots in across Finland and is currently investigating the event.
