The Institute for Quality of Life, based in London, featured six Finnish cities in its 2023 Happiest City Index.

The Danish city of Aarhus topped the company's list of 200 cities, followed by Zurich in Switzerland and Vancouver in Canada.

In Finland, Helsinki ranked as the happiest city, placing 11th in the international ranking.

Lappeenranta was the second happiest city in Finland, ranking 25th worldwide.

Four other Finnish cities also made appearances on the list — Oulu (50th), Tampere (51st), Jyväskylä (58th) and Turku (60th).

The Institute for Quality of Life assessed cities in five areas: citizens, governance, environment, economy and mobility, evaluating if actions taken by decision-makers have impacted people's happiness.

The list of the happiest cities in the world can be found on the Institute's website. The 23 happiest cities are listed in alphabetical order, rather than in order of ranking.
