Helsinki Airport was awarded Europe's best airport of its size in terms of customer experience in 2023, national operator Finavia announced in a press release on Monday.
The ASQ (Airport Service Quality) award given to Helsinki Airport compared aviation facilities that serve between 15 and 25 million passengers annually. The comparison surveyed experiences at 400 airports across 95 countries, according to Finavia.
"We are extremely grateful for this award and are proud that our work for a first-class customer experience is also recognised internationally. We have succeeded in raising the level of customer satisfaction at Helsinki Airport over the long term, and the ASQ survey result for 2023 is the best in the airport’s history," Finavia CEO Kimmo Mäki said in the release.
The firm said that improving customer satisfaction was the goal of a decade-long renovation of Helsinki Airport, which wrapped up last year.
The facility's overhaul saw the rollout of new carry-on baggage scanners that permitted passengers to bring up to two litres of liquids through security, added more than two dozen shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as the updating of its luggage logistics equipment, Finavia explained.
The ASQ award was based on the results of annual surveys of around 4,000 passengers at Helsinki Airport. Respondents are queried about 30 service categories, including customer service and check-in. They were also asked how they viewed the facility's shopping and dining offerings.
With the exception of 2021, Helsinki Airport has received the ASQ award five out of the past six years.
