As part of a visit to Brussels, Finnish President Alexander Stubb met with Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday.
Stubb and Stoltenberg held a press conference at Nato's headquarters marking Finland's one-year anniversary since joining the defence alliance.
Stoltenberg praised Finland for committing to its own defence as well as the Nordic country's unwavering support for Ukraine.
Stubb stressed that Finland wants to play an integral role in Nato moving forward, especially given that the country now accounts for roughly half of the alliance's border with Russia.
"My aim as president and our aim as Finland is to be a loyal, constructive and responsible partner in Nato," Stubb said.
"We might be in the northeastern corner geographically, but we want to be in the institutional core of Nato."
Both Stubb and Stoltenberg also gave assurances that Ukraine's support will continue in the future.
"You can trust us. We support the work that the secretary general is doing as we move towards the Washington summit. We will have two very clear goals there — one is on defence and deterrence and the other is on supporting Ukraine," Stubb said.
The Brussels visit also includes meeting with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the EU's Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen.
