Finns Party MP Wille Rydman will not face prosecution into suspected offences including aggravated defamation, aggravated dissemination of information violating personal privacy, and a breach of confidentiality related to his ex-partner.
Yle understands that prosecutors have dropped the case against Rydman, who currently serves as Finland's Minister of Economic Affairs, due to insufficient evidence.
The case centred around statements Rydman made in his book, as well as a blog post, a Facebook update and in a media interview.
Helsinki police wrapped up three separate investigations involving Rydman in March — two where he was suspected of committing crimes and one in which he was the plaintiff.
The one in which Rydman was a plaintiff arose when he filed a request for investigation with police over an article published by Helsingin Sanomat in June 2022.
The article alleged that Rydman had harassed young women while he was serving as an MP for the National Coalition Party. A number of the women cited in the article were minors at the time of the allegations, and they told the paper about the alleged use of alcohol and violence.
HS further wrote that Rydman's interest in young women and girls was well known among his fellow party members but this knowledge was kept from the public.
Police passed the case file to prosecutors in March, but Helsingin Sanomat reported on Friday that the charges have been dismissed.
The newspaper had faced allegations including defamation, aggravated defamation, dissemination of information violating personal privacy as well as editorial misconduct.
In response to the report that the case against Helsingin Sanomat has been dropped, Rydman wrote on X of his "surprise" at the decision.
