Finland has ranked first among European Union countries in terms of knowledge about climate change, according to the results of an extensive survey carried out by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Finnish respondents scored an average of 7.22/10, well above the EU average of 6.37/10. Luxembourg (7.19/10) came in second place and Sweden (6.96/10) finished third.

The survey assessed people’s knowledge of climate change in three key areas: definitions and causes, consequences, and solutions.

The survey's report noted that people in Finland were very aware of the causes and consequences of climate change, but there was "room for improvement" in the overall knowledge of solutions.

"Similarly to the findings in most EU countries, a large share of Finnish respondents did not know that reducing speed limits on roads (77%) or better insulating buildings (63%) can help combat climate change," the report said.

Denial about climate change was also found to be very low in Finland, with only 5 percent of Finnish respondents saying they believed that climate change is a hoax.

The survey assessed the climate change knowledge of more than 30,000 people from 35 different countries, including EU member states, the United Kingdom, the United States, China, Japan, India and Canada.
