Helsinki men's football club IF Gnistan announced on Sunday that they will play the remaining home matches of their season at Töölö Football Stadium in central Helsinki.

The main stand at the Veikkausliiga club's home stadium in Helsinki's Oulunkylä district was destroyed in a fire last weekend.

"We are very pleased that we have now resolved this issue. Finding a quick, optimal solution for everyone in the middle of the busy football season was understandably very challenging and required and will continue to require flexibility from all parties," IF Gnistan's chair Ilkka Vanala said in a press release.

Töölö Football Stadium is also the home stadium for HJK Helsinki, Veikkausliiga winners for the past four seasons. Another option was to play the remaining home fixtures at the Myyrmäki stadium in Vantaa.

"We made our choice based on the overall performance of the sports activities, the commercial package, the operation of the matches and accessibility. With Töölö, a lot has already been agreed in a short period of time. However, there are still issues to be resolved in the day-to-day running of the team. I trust that the City of Helsinki will be willing to resolve the rest of the outstanding issues as soon as possible next week," Vanala noted.

IF Gnistan's first home match in Töölö is scheduled for Sunday 4 August when they play Vaasa side VPS, a match which will also mark the club's 100th anniversary.
