Flow Festival gets green light for Suvilahti in 2025

Last summer was supposed to be the final Flow Festival in its traditional Suvilahti location, but the curtain call keeps getting pushed back.

This year's Flow Festival will not be the festival's swan song for its location in Helsinki's Suvilahti district.

The 20-year-old music event has received permission from the City of Helsinki to continue in Suvilahti until 2025.

Newspaper Helsingin Sanomat was the first outlet to report the news.

In April 2023, the festival announced that summer would be the last for the festival Suvilahti due to planned construction projects in the area.

However, the projects in Suvilahti did not go ahead, and in summer 2023 it was announced that the festival would continue for another year.

Tuomas Kallio, the festival's artistic director, tells Yle that the matter will be taken "one year at a time. Whether or not Flow Festival continues in Suvilahti past next year is unknown.

"If I had to guess, it's possible, but not certain," Kallio told Yle.

Green light earlier this year

The festival organisers received information about continuing the festival for next year in Suvilahti earlier this year. However, the news was announced just two weeks before Flow Festival 2024.

Kallio said that planning for the future is difficult at the moment because the situation in Suvilahti is still flexible and not optimal for the business.

"It's quite confusing and not very planned," he told Yle.
