The government is proposing a new sign specifically for electric scooters.

The proposed sign is a yellow plate featuring a black image of an electric scooter, intended to clarify when traffic rules or restrictions apply to these vehicles. The sign may also be used to indicate exemptions for electric scooters by including the text "Ei koske" ("Does not apply" in English).

These proposals are part of the government's legislative reforms aimed at clarifying regulations for electric vehicles and improving road safety.

Along with the sign, the government is proposing a road marking to designate parking spaces for electric scooters.

In addition, all electric vehicles with speeds between 7 and 25 kilometres per hour would be classified as light electric vehicles under the new law. The same traffic rules applied to cyclists would be extended to these vehicles.

The government also suggests introducing a 0.5 blood alcohol content (BAC) limit for operators of light electric vehicles and motorised bicycles. These proposals are part of broader legislation on micro mobility, with changes expected to take effect in May next year.

The proposals were first reported by tabloid Iltalehti.
