Foreign graduates from Finnish universities face challenges in gaining a foothold in the Finnish job market, according to data compiled by the think tank Akava Works at the request of Finnish news agency STT.
The report indicates that only around a quarter of highly educated foreigners in Finland work in positions aligning with their degrees one year after graduating, compared to 63 percent of Finnish graduates.
Akava Works' figures also reveal that 53 percent of graduates from the EU still reside in Finland one year after graduation, while the figure is 81 percent for those from other parts of the world. This data was pulled from 2022, a year when unemployment among recent graduates was significantly lower than it is today, STT reports.
Akava (the Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland) is the country's main white-collar union.
