Cities in Finland like in many others around the world are welcoming 2025 with firework displays.
In Finland, fireworks are permitted on New Year's Eve between 6pm and 2am.
Authorities are reminding the public that fireworks should only be ignited outdoors in areas where they pose no risk to people or animals.
By law, fireworks can only be handled by people 18 or older.
The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) also wants to remind people that it's mandatory to wear protective eyewear when handling fireworks. It's not uncommon for eye injuries in Finland to be reported on New Year's Day.
Some cities are hosting public events on Tuesday evening to ring in the new year. In Helsinki, the city is organising a celebration at Citizens' Square that includes pyrotechnics and a concert featuring artists Mirella and Windows95man. These festivities will disrupt traffic in the area between 10pm and 2am.
In Tampere, restaurants are putting on a fireworks display, set to begin at 10 pm. The fireworks can be viewed at various locations, including Laukontori. In the southwest, Turku is hosting a New Year's fireworks display at Samppalinnanmäki at midnight.
After a relatively mild Christmas week, temperatures on Tuesday are a little frostier, with the mercury a few degrees below freezing nationwide on New Year's Eve.
