State budget talks between Prime Minister Sanna Marin's (SDP) five-party coalition government were still deadlocked on Tuesday evening.
The government leaders had continued talks for a seventh day, once again failing to come to agreement.
Prime Minister Marin briefly left the House of the Estates in Kruununhaka, central Helsinki, to tell journalists that the Centre Party had not threatened to quit the government, despite media reports to the contrary.
"I've wondered a little about some of the newspaper reports," said Marin. "That's why I came out here."
Prime Minister Marin confirmed on Tuesday late afternoon that the talks will continue tonight.
"Negotiations are ongoing. We will continue our talks and go through individual issues together and separately," Marin told press outside the House of Estates.
According to Marin, everyone is still committed to finding a solution.
"We still have a government that has not yet run into the ground. But yes, we are in the middle of some difficult negotiations," Marin said.
"Obviously we cannot negotiate forever, but at this moment we still are," said the Prime Minister.
Rumblings of a coalition in crisis were felt earlier in the day when Saarikko told press her confidence in the government was faltering.
Marin responded to the implications of Saarikko's statement, saying that tackling the Covid crisis would be difficult with a minority government.
"We are still in a serious situation and the country needs a functioning majority government that can take care of the affairs of the motherland in a pandemic. I hope everyone can look beyond the interests of their party for the benefit of us all," said the Prime Minister.
