Emergency services attend dozens of callouts
Wind warnings issued by the Finnish Meteorological Institute were in force on Tuesday, both at sea and on land across much of Central Finland.
There were amber warnings in force in North Ostrobothnia, North Karelia, North Savo and Kainuu. The warnings in force mean winds are gusty and strong enough to cause extensive damage. In addition to power cuts, there may be interruptions to telecommunications and other services.
Emergency services in Central Finland attended nearly 70 incidents on Tuesday morning, according to the Central Finland Rescue Department's Chief Juha Saario.
Watch: Waves break as Storm Vieno hits Pori
Tomi-Pekka Olkkonen of the Pirkanmaa Fire Department told Yle that emergency services had attended over 100 callouts in the region.
"Damage control, fallen trees, and we helped a couple of floating saunas on Lake Pyhäjärvi," he said.
Widespread power cuts
The storm has also cut power to thousands of people. Electricity company Elenia said it had more than 7,000 customers without power in Central Finland on Tuesday morning, affecting households in Jyväskylä, Jämsä and Äänekoski.
Customers of Savon Voima power company in North Savo also experienced blackouts, with around 26,000 households affected by lunchtime, according to the company's network manager Pekka Miettinen.
Miettinen told Yle that as winds in the region were forecast to strengthen on Tuesday afternoon, further power outages were likely.

In Pirkanmaa, electricity supplier Tampereen Sähkölaitos tweeted that its contractors were working to restore power after the storm cut off supply in Teisko, north of Tampere.
Trains cancelled
Tuesday morning also saw train services interrupted by Storm Vieno. High winds toppled a tree onto the railway's power lines at Lielahti in Tampere. M-train service between Nokia and Tampere was restored during the morning.
The track infrastructure was also damaged between Harjavalta and Nakkila, halting train services.
Rail replacement buses were serving the route, with train services not likely to resume normally on the route before 6:00pm, according to transport body Fintraffic.
Information from Fintraffic early on Tuesday afternoon suggested that no trains in the country were running on time.
