Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran will return to Finland in August next year, after his previous performances in Helsinki broke attendance records.

Sheeran is the first international performer to have a show scheduled at the newly-renovated Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

The show, due to take place on Saturday 20 August 2022, is part of a European tour and is likely to feature material from Sheeran's upcoming Equals album which is released next month.

Sheeran's last visit to Finland in July 2019 saw the British guitarist draw a crowd of 108,000 people over two nights to Malmi Airport in Helsinki.

At one point, Sheeran delighted fans by walking onstage wearing a Finland team football shirt. He also described how he had spent his birthday in Finland the previous year going to the sauna and then rolling in the snow.

Helsinki Police thanked concert goers attending the sold-out events for two largely peaceful evenings - although two drone operators were handed fines for violating a ban on overflying the site.
