Finland has been voted on to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2022-2024 term. In addition to Finland, Luxembourg and the United States were elected onto the body.
The main message of Finland's campaign was that human rights are for everybody in a diverse world. Women and girls' rights, the rights of disabled people, new technology, climate change and education around human rights were the points emphasised in Finland's campaigning.
The Human Rights Council is the UN's highest organ dealing with human rights. It's role is, among other things, to try to promote adherence to human rights norms and standards.
