Former CEO Jukka Laaksovirta and his business associate Markku Saarikangas are suspected of having committed aggravated fraud and forgery.
In May a report on YLE TV’s current affairs programme A-studio revealed that Laaksovirta had underwritten a deal that awarded a contract to his business partner. Police launched investigations soon after the programme aired. Laaksovirta left his position when the case was brought to light.
A report by the daily Helsingin Sanomat indicated that the men were detained on Tuesday.
Destia, formerly the Finnish Road Enterprise, was until eight years ago part of the National Board of Public Roads. It was then spun off as a separate commercial entity, while the rest became the Finnish Road Administration, which is in charge of public roads and coordination of road maintenance.
