Since it was built in 1938, the Olympic Stadium has been a city icon towering over Helsinki. Due to the Second World War, the 1940 Olympics were cancelled, but the stadium served as the main arena for the 1952 Summer Olympics.
For nearly eighty years the venue has also hosted countless athletic competitions and other events. But next week the historic stadium will shut down for a major multi-year construction and modernisation project.
Before that happens, the stadium is selling off everything not nailed down - and a lot of items that were.
The sale opened to the public on Tuesday, and the most desirable items were sold off in just a few hours. Despite that, there were still a few people interested in seeing what they could find later in the week.
Everything from massage tables and racing hurdles to gift shop trinkets and VIP-room designer chairs were still up for grabs on Wednesday.
"Stadium very special place"
Architect Ze'ev Lipan who lives in Kirkkonummi came to buy a discus, and to take another look at the architecture.
Lipan says the 100 euro discus he was looking at was a bit rich for his budget, but he said the stadium holds many memories for him.
"The stadium is a very special place, when I came to Finland a long time ago as a visitor and scholarship holder, this was one of the first things that I came to see as an architect," Lipan said.
"This was one of the symbols of modern architecture of modern Finland. It was a huge symbol all over the world. So, this was part of my research when I was researching the modern architecture of Finland," Lipan said.
"Years later, when I came to live here it was one of my favourite places. First of all you have the fantastic view up top, and second it has this classical, traditional, modern style of architecture which influenced many in around the world," he said.
The sale is open until December 22, or until the sale items run out.
These remaining days are also the last chance to go to the top of the stadium's tower; the half-price tickets cost 2.50 euros apiece.
Starting on December 23, the Olympic Stadium will be closed until 2019.
