But here’s some ways to tell if your sourdough is over proofed👇🏼

📌Overproofed dough tends to look puffy and swollen. It might have lost its structure and appear deflated or collapsed in some areas. The surface may have large air bubbles or blisters.

📌When you touch overproofed dough, it will feel delicate and fragile. It lacks the firmness and elasticity of properly proofed dough. You might notice a slack or loose texture, and it may feel sticky or overly soft.

📌Gently poke the surface of the dough with your finger. If the indentation remains and doesn’t spring back slowly, it’s a sign of overproofing. Maybe the heat or humidity pushes your dough to ferment quicker than expected or you sleep in too long when you’re dough is proofing on the counter overnight (this has been me) causing your sourdough dough to be majorly over-proofed. But all is not lost!   Here’s three ways salvage it:   1. If it’s not totally unmanageable, try to shape and bake up your loaf/loaves anyway. You might be surprised. Some of my best loaves have come from dough I thought was too far gone. Plus, IT’S STILL BREAD. So even if it’s a little flatter than normal, you still made a loaf of sourdough and should be proud.   2.
