the fact that sp was, for the entire novel, "why him but not me" towards yjh but in the end it was sp who achieved his happy ending with his dokja, with od, while yjh searched the entire fucking universe for his and came back empty handed is so fucking funny to me. like yes the symbolisms metaphors allusions all that stuff. but. its just. so funny. this pathetic loser is the only character who got a happy ending

Not that it's anything new, but the "voluntary" in "voluntary migration" really drives home the utter shamelessness of the occupation.

They destroy Gazan homes, hospitals, schools, roads, universities, infrastructure, cut off their water and electricity, then when they have no choice but to escape the hell that was created for them, claim they "voluntarily" chose to leave their land behind and have no right to return.

When Nakba deniers claim that Palestinians "chose" to leave their land, remember this.

Amal's baby daughter, Mariam, has known no childhood outside of surviving this genocide. She will soon be of age to attend school. Last we spoke, she had a very close call during the most recent bombardment. If she wants to give her daughter a chance at normalcy, security, education, and a decent childhood, but those options have been taken away from Gaza, is this voluntary migration?

Mahmoud wants to continue his education. He has been able to scrape by through remote learning online, but every day it becomes harder to even find reliable internet access. Last we spoke, he was trying to pay his fees in time, so that he would be allowed to enroll in this semester. If he wants to pursue his degree, but the conditions in Gaza have made that impossible, is this voluntary migration?

Dr. Anas is a cancer patient. His physical and mental health have been obliterated by this genocide. Last we spoke, he told me that after making some recovery during the ceasefire, he's now back to square one. If he wants to live, to continue his job as a doctor, and to recover from depression, which is impossible to do during bombardment, is this voluntary migration?

Samir is severely injured, and in immediate danger of losing his leg. Last we spoke, his sister told me that the bombardment in their area are more intense than they've ever been. If Samir wants to undergo surgery to save his leg, but there are no such options in Gaza, is this voluntary migration?

Please don't abandon them like our administrations have. They shouldn't have to rely on our generosity, but they must.

flow winning animated feature is the kind of story that's going to be taught like the boogeyman to every big animation studio's intake class for decades

i keep thinking of this team and getting really emotional. maybe it's because of the being made in blender and kinda looking like a cutscene thing but they really remind me of when tiny indie game studios win massive and Just Can't Believe It. they came to the oscars with cufflinks of their little cat on it. they had the cat embroidered into the lining of their jackets. they posted photos of them all celebrating with their oscars at in-n-out afterwards. imagine being in an indie studio in a country that's literally never been recognized by nomination at the oscars, picking up TWO nominations for an ANIMATED film, getting flown out, decking yourselves out in easter eggs of your little guy, going "hey we may not win but holy shit latvia's at the goddamn oscars let's gooooo" and then running away with the biggest mainstream animation award there is. i'd lose my fucking mind. peace and love and joy and jubilation on planet earth

idk if anyone cares but i can confirm that the entire country is also collectively losing their minds over this

  • oscar prize together with the golden globe are going to be displayed at the national art museum for everyone to see
image
  • gints has gotten several ‘person of the year’ awards from both the country and the capital city - which is also advertised on the streets
image
image
  • there’s a giant freaking poster on the parliament building
image
  • there’s a statue of the kitty right in the city centre
image
  • there’s limited edition envelopes and stamps sold
image
  • there’s kids books in every bookstore, toys, merch, puzzles, BOARD GAMES
image
  • there’s murals in the streets
image
  • there’s limited edition coffee - which added gold powder to it once the oscar award was announced
image

and everyone is offering to do this WILLINGLY (or cashing in on the success depending on how you look at it, but really we’re just excited as fuck)

this is NOT part of a major marketing scheme by the studio - none of this was around before/around the movies actual release
