The EM Reset setting enables the electromechanical reset emulation for the US or IEC curve.
This setting is usually set to N, except for special applications.
For example, it can be used in the case which the backup protective relay is an
electromechanical disk relay. If maximum phase current goes above minimum pickup setting
2 and then the current goes below pickup setting, the element starts to time to reset in two
different ways.
 EM RESET = Y :
By emulating electromechanical reset timing.
 EM RESET = N :
Reset time has only 1 cycle delay.

Constant Time Adder

The constant time adder setting adds a constant time to the curve, if set to other than 0.

Fast and Delay Negative

Applied fast and delay operation to negative sequence elements.
The time delay characteristics(TCCs) for negative sequence are same to other over-current
elements. So it can be achieved that more flexible and more adaptable applications.

Ne.Lo.Ang.Rev 0 ~ (-)90 -31D

The load-encroachment feature allows phase over-current elements to be set independent of

load levels. This is very important in loop scheme. And also this can achieve more sensitive
over-current protection and more adaptable applications.
If the phase elements are set close to maximum load current levels. This runs the risk of
tripping on load current. The load-encroachment feature prevents this from happening.
The related settings are as follows.
- Load Enc. Ph Pickup Current
- Load Enc. Gr Pickup Current
- Load Encroachment Enabled
- Po. Lo. Ang. For (Positive Load Angle Forward)
- Ne. Lo. Ang. For (Negative Load Angle Forward)
- Po. Lo. Ang. Rev (Positive Load Angle Reverse)
- Ne. Lo. Ang. Rev (Negative Load Angle Reverse)

1) Load Encroachment Enabled = No

The recloser is tripped by phase and ground
14 over-current elements when the line current
is over the original minimum pickup current
settings. It operates independently of power factor.

2) Load Encroachment Enabled = Yes

The operation region is divided into load current
region and fault current region by power factor
and four angle settings. In the load current region,
the pickup current is load encroachment pickup
setting. And in the fault current region, the pickup
current is original minimum pickup setting.

SYMPATH. TRIP AVOID Avoidance OFF, 1 ~ 50 OFF

Sympathetic trips are undesirable recloser operations for unbalanced- or high-load conditions
which occur during or immediately following out-of-section faults. The sympathetic trip
avoidance function prevent reclosers from tripping due to delayed voltage recovery
sympathetic trip conditions.
The method is detecting a simultaneous phase under-voltage without high current condition.
The setting is multiple for minimum pickup of phase and ground. If the system voltage is below
85% of nominal voltage and no fault current is detected, over-current pickup is desensitized
during 180 seconds.

15

This function is applied to both minimum pickup and load encroachment pickup (if enabled).

Directional Relay Setting Procedure

Reverse power elements and directionally supervised over-current elements are employed.
The directional supervision of the phase overcurrent element is made up of two components.
One is the use of positive sequence voltage polarized phase elements to detect three phase
faults. The second is a negative sequence voltage polarized directional element used to detect
unbalanced faults.
Following figure is a diagram of positive sequence element. For negative sequence element, it
is similar to this.

The settings such as MTA(Maximum Torque Angle), TAW(Torque Angle Width) are related
closely to the distribution system configuration and its grounding system. So it is hard to
suggest guideline or setting procedure.
