This test procedure is made out for customers to check normal operation of R6 Control
before installation.
Check carefully control cubicle” if dewdrops have formed or there is any moisture inside
the control cubicle before starting test before installation. If yes, you have to dry the control
cubicle, control cables and power cable first of all for one or two days in a dry place with
the cubicle’s inner door opened.
3) Wake up R6 control
Press the “WAKE UP/LAMP TEST/TARGET RESET” button for 2 seconds and then R6
Control operates.
When the battery voltage goes to below 23V(discharged), R6 control goes to “sleep” mode
after 3 minutes. “Wake Up” function is used to turn on R6 control again(if it is not deep-
discharged). If you want R6 control to be waked up and operated normally, you have to
change battery to charged one(above 24Vdc) and then press “Wake Up” button.
Meantime, if AC power is supplied to R6 control, the control is waked up
automatically from sleep mode in any condition.
Even though you press the “WAKE UP (/LAMP TEST/TARGET RESET)” button after
turning “DC Power” switch on, R6 control will not operate properly in following conditions.
“CONTROL ENABLED” LED is “off”
“BATTERY TROUBLE” LED is “on”
“GAS LOW” LED is “on”
“CLOSE” and “TRIP” LED’s are both “off” (this means failure of signals of main
contacts position).
NOTE 1 : Check the followings also after pressing wake up button if R6 control does not
operate.
Battery deep-discharged
Battery connection cable disconnected in Control Cubicle
DC FUSE melt-down

Document No. R6RC_BDSQ-090219V03
NOTE 2 : If R6 control is automatically turned off after 3 minutes after Battery Trouble LED
is illuminated and AC Power disconnected, it means that the battery voltage is lower than
23V.
NOTE 3 : If control cables are connected between recloser and R6 control, “GAS LOW”
LED, and recloser status LED’s ( “CLOSE” and “TRIP”) are changed as following,
If the gas pressure of recloser is normal, “GAS LOW” LED will be extinguished.
One of recloser status LED’s (“CLOSE” and “TRIP”) will be turned on according to
condition of recloser main contacts position.
5) Lamp Test
Press the “WAKE UP/LAMP TEST/TARGET RESET” button to check all LED’s normal
status in the front panel.
WARNING : Two (2) cable plugs marked with C1, C2 on each cable ends should
be connected to receptacles C1, C2 of control cubicle. And two cable plugs M1, M2
should be connected to receptacles M1, M2 of Recloser Tank. If the cables are not
connected correctly, it will make serious problem to recloser and control.
7) Manual Operation
Without connecting recloser and control unit with control cables, you can test manual
operations 4-5 times with recloser’s Manual Operation Shaft and Manual Open-Lock
Handle (Lever).
Close 1 : Turn the ‘Manual Closing Shaft’, ‘clockwise’ until you hear a very little sound
“Tick”.
Open 1 : Pull Down ‘Manual Open-Lock Handle’
Close 2 : Push Up ‘Manual Open-Lock Handle’. If so, ‘Manual Closing Shaft’ will move to
its initial position. You can then turn the ‘Manual Closing Shaft’, ‘clockwise’ again.
Open 2 : Pull Down ‘Manual Open-Lock Handle’ again. And it must be pushed up to its
initial position after open operation.

CAUTION : You can make settings through Front Panel LCD or PC Setting and
Monitoring Program (CPR6). When you do this with CPR6, you have to receive set
data from R6 control first by pressing “Control to PC” button in the program, and then
put your own data into control by pressing “PC to Control” button. With this procedure,
you can make setting without mistake.
If this button doesn’t work, you should check below buttons and LED’s.

1. Disable the protection using the “PROTECTION ENABLED” push button in front
of the panel.
2. Connect current terminal of primary current injection equipment to recloser’s
bushing terminal.
3. Inject the test current.
4. Compare injected primary current with displayed current values on LCD screen.
You can check primary current through “first initial mode screen” of LCD. If the measured
currents look very unstable, it may be due to wrong frequency setting, so you should
check the set value of Frequency.
NOTE: If fault current value is higher than the pre-set ground pick up value,
“GROUND” fault target LED is ON even though ground pick-up function is disabled.
7/60
Document No. R6RC_BDSQ-090219V03
3. Apply current more than the pre-set value of Pick-Up Current –Ground using
Primary Current Injection Equipment. If fault pick-up is done, the ground fault
Target LED is ON with yellow color. And then TCC works to trip recloser. After
recloser trip, the ground LED is changed to red color, and R6 control goes to
79LO (Lock Out) state.
1. For reclosing function test, protection function should be enabled and reclosing
function should be enabled.
2. If the set value is the same as the value of No.11 Sequence Trip Test, the result
will be the same also.
1. For Reset Time test, protection function should be enabled and reclosing function
should be enabled.
2. If the set value is the same as the value of No.11 Sequence Trip Test, the result
will be the same also.

4) Wake Up R6 Control
Refer to No 3. of previous chapter “1. Test Before Installation for R6 Control”.
5) Disable Protection
Press “PROTECTION DISABLE” button to avoid wrong-tripping by non-verified setting
values (default setting values) from line over current, before connecting control cables. If
the control is not installed to the power line yet, you can skip this process.

The EM Reset setting enables the electromechanical reset emulation for the US or IEC curve.
This setting is usually set to N, except for special applications.
For example, it can be used in the case which the backup protective relay is an
electromechanical disk relay. If maximum phase current goes above minimum pickup setting
2 and then the current goes below pickup setting, the element starts to time to reset in two
different ways.
EM RESET = Y :
By emulating electromechanical reset timing.
EM RESET = N :
Reset time has only 1 cycle delay.

Sympathetic trips are undesirable recloser operations for unbalanced- or high-load conditions
which occur during or immediately following out-of-section faults. The sympathetic trip
avoidance function prevent reclosers from tripping due to delayed voltage recovery
sympathetic trip conditions.
The method is detecting a simultaneous phase under-voltage without high current condition.
The setting is multiple for minimum pickup of phase and ground. If the system voltage is below
85% of nominal voltage and no fault current is detected, over-current pickup is desensitized
during 180 seconds.
15
This function is applied to both minimum pickup and load encroachment pickup (if enabled).
