“Well.” Steve claps her hands. “Say your goodbyes then, wouldn’t want to make him wait a year.”
Before Eddie can send her a panicked glare, she slides into the water, dunking Robin under the surface along with her. They scream and laugh, giving him and Chrissy a moment for themselves.

Eddie looks him straight in the eye, astounded by the question. By having the gall to even ask it.
“Guess,” he dares, raising his eyebrows in a challenge.
Steve hums thoughtfully, turning to slowly fix his coffee like there is no tension in the room. You know, the one coming off of Eddie in waves. That tension.
Growing.
🧚♂️ Please!!
“So it could feel like an hour but I’ve been gone for days? Years?” he asks, his voice going progressively higher.
“Years long delay is a rare thing.” Robin shakes her head, hair flying slowly with the movement. “Usually it’s a day or a few.”
“You’re not just saying it to make me feel better?” Eddie frowns.
🧚♂️
“There is no just, though,” Robin tells him, unhelpfully.
“What Robin is trying to say,” Steve interjects like she’s used to translating Robin-speech to others, “is we don’t have time here. And we can’t know how yours is moving right now.”
Eddie is trying not to panic at that revelation, not yet at least.
