The construction of railway stations and the construction of lines are accompanying processes of urbanization of cities, which have also manifested themselves in Bratislava since the middle of the 19th century. The railway line, determining the construction of factories, was an important element not only for traffic flows of commodities, but also as urban formation factor. After 1900, the railway, as one of the main attributes of modernization, gradually became a barrier to the development of other types of transport and the establishing of new, mainly residential structures. It has been repeatedly shown that the city will develop mainly to the northeast. The presence of railways initially helped this development-it combined the interest of the predominant cargo transport with passenger transport. Later, these two types of transport segregated, while passenger rail transport, unlike cargo, was still tolerated in the city. Town planning visions, which were trying to solve the relocation of the main station and the displacement of railway lines from the city, were only partially realized. They were never realized as a holistic task.

In the same time, this notion is shared just by a small number of experts – historians, architects or art his-torians – and the subject of industrial heritage stays to a large extent a domain of civic acti-vism. The growing interest of civic associations is driven by an outrage of rapid demolition of a number of key historical industrial sites in Bratislava in the recent past. In the contrast to the public interest, the expert research of industrial heritage might seem as less effective and understandable. The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of existing expert research in a connection with interdisciplinary methods that are not yet developed sufficiently. The interdisciplinary team-work has to be done both on the level of official state heritage protection policies and civic activism, as it is confirmed also ...

The present contribution discusses this work by Peter Behrens – an important landmark constructed well outside the major urban centers for 20th century architecture in a provincial Slovak town. Its most recent restoration, completed in May 2017, lasted a full five years. During this time, many discussions took place among heritage experts, theorists and architects, which eventually formulated the architectonic idea of the reconstruction into its final form. In addition, the realization was greatly assisted not only by the team of architects but many volunteers. The project for the New Synagogue won many awards and is viewed positively as a source of inspiration, perhaps even more so since it overcame several problematic moments regarding its financing, but also in the search for the best restoration methods and met them successfully

CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC TRANSFERS IN THEATRE AND MUSIC: PAST, PRESENT, AND PERSPECTIVES, 2021

Both buildings of the Slovak National Theatre-the first one called historical building situating in the centre of the city on Hviezdoslav Square and also the second, new one located on a former industrial periphery on Pribinova Street-are remarkable architectural works. Besides that, planning and thinking about appropriate location of the theatre buildings took place in important phases of urban planning in Bratislava, in different historical periods. While the original historical theatre was decided to be built relatively quickly-on the orders of the Queen Maria Theresa of Hungary and Bohemia in the 18th Century on grounds acquired by demolishing the city walls, the location of the new theatre was the result of architectural discourse lasting several decades, from inter-war period to late seventieth of the 20 th Century. It illustrates, what an important social theme was the search for the location of theatre in urban structure of Bratislava in any political arrangement across three centuries.
