Not all queer films need to be of groundbreaking impact. Sapphics deserve cheesy romcoms too.

Watching this right after finishing the book (unabridged) made its deviations very jarring for me. I can acknowledge these liberties taken as a fair attempt to cover as many storylines as they could by condensing them into fewer characters, but ultimately, the depths of the source material’s themes suffered too palpably for me to find this an excellent adaptation.

As a standalone piece, it was still an enjoyable watch.

This is one of the funniest smartest dumbest films I’ve ever seen, not to mention the best improv ever:

I…hated her so much! I- it the- f- it- flamed- flames. Flames…on the side of my face. Breathing- breathl- heaving breaths…

This left me brewing in my emotions because what a beautiful film this was, with the magic of switching back and forth 8mm/16mm/35mm, and dropping lines that made feel like if I scooped my raw insides out with a spoon instead, it would be a less intimate, less invasive act.

You can’t just love something. You also have to take care of it.

Art will give you crowns in heaven and laurels on earth. But, it’ll tear your heart out and leave you lonely.

You do what your heart says you have to, because you don’t owe anyone your life.
