One of Ozu’s finest in beautiful technicolour. Rewatching this again after a few years and i love the pillow shots showing the industrial landscapes and more intimate confines of eateries and bars in Tokyo. An Autumn Afternoon is a subtly striking tale about the passage of time and learning to let go of things that must inevitably happen in life. Chishu Ryu is incredible in the role and one of the end shots of him has got me every time…
