What a masterfully written film. It was incredibly detailed and has such a fascinating plot. This is definitely going to be one of the best of the year. Genuinely one of the best scripts in a film I’ve ever seen. It’s insane. The only gripe I have is that it’s incredibly dialogue heavy, which is to be expected with this kind of movie.

Upon second watch, this holds up as one of my favorite movies ever. The story is so complex and layered. And the way every detail is relevant even from the very first scene of the film. It’s fantastic. I don’t care what anyone says. This is an all time great.

This movie is so sad, but at the same time, very wholesome. It’s hard to explain, but all I know is that I enjoyed it. The story is touching and Tom Hanks does a great job as usual. The only thing that I didn’t enjoy was the slowness of the whole thing, which is to be expected with this kind of movie. Overall I’d say it’s a very solid film that definitely deserves at least one watch, but I would for sure like to see this again in the future.

I loved it. Russell Crowe is amazing and so is Joaquin Phoenix as usual. But, I think a performance that goes under appreciated is Connie Nielsen’s as Lucilla. I found her character fascinating and I think she gave a great performance. What a satisfying story of redemption and sacrifice. This is also one of the most quotable films of all time. It has so many iconic lines that transcends the film really. I’d heard many of these lines before even seeing the film.

“Death smiles at us all; all a man can do is smile back.”
