I think this is the first movie I watched alone in the theater. That part was cool, I would do that again.

Mickey 17 made for a good theater experience, entertaining and funny. It's too heavy on the propaganda for my taste and the ending was weak. I'm just glad Bong Joon Ho is one of the directors who gets to make big budget movies that aren't superhero, sequels or IP.

I'm not surprised Letterboxd has removed the public forum for this particular political documentary. On the plus side, I'm glad it can still be reviewed and logged.

In terms of artistic quality, it's average for a smaller budget political documentary. In terms of it's message, well, let's just say I probably agree with it more than the Letterboxd admins.

This movie is historically inaccurate to a cringeworthy level. Banastre Tarleton must be rolling in his grave. It is also seemingly allergic to nuance.

BUT I love this movie. It's wildly entertaining. It's very rewatchable. The colonial era looks great on film. Jason isaacs role plays the perfect red coat incarnation of Satan. When the colonists die it does actually emotionally sting. Maybe I am overrating this movie as an American blinded by my unexamined nationalism. If so, cool. The heart wants what it wants.

    Happy independence day!
