I think I like this even more than the first one. It’s one of those absolutely bonkers films whose production is totally incomprehensible. Like, how in the fuck did they even survive shooting this? How the fuck does one choreograph such an extreme nonstop chase sequence and have the entire cast jumping to and from moving vehicles to kill each other? I read one of them broke a femur, but was surprised there weren’t more near-deaths, honestly.

    Despite so much…

Empathy and humanity granted to the incarcerated. Male vulnerability. Stunning cinematography using 16mm film stock and natural lighting. A verite style using the actually formerly incarcerated men who participated in the RTA program. A predictably powerful performance from Domingo, but equally as so from non-professional-actor and former prisoner Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin. A cooperatively owned film production with equitable wages. Just wow, what a fucking movie that delivered in every conceivable way but also walked the walk with its representation and support of the people kidnapped by the prison system.

After all my research, I’m inclined to believe this notorious VHS mystery is of a real kid with a genuine skull who has robbed graves, but I’m more captivated by the mystery of who the kid is and where he is now. That’s definitely something we still don’t know.

The nonchalance with which he drunkenly gives amateur pointers on robbing a grave and cleaning a skull is pretty unsettling, especially with his stutter and the dirt and cuts all over…

I’m sorry, but these low-budget horrors that keep coming out and thinking creating an ominous atmosphere with vague allusions to trauma for 90 minutes is enough to make a feature-length film really need to stop.
