A deceptively profound story about inspiration and the genesis of an idea, the feeling that one new piece of information can change one’s understanding and perception of everything that came before.
Anderson’s dry and calculated directorial style can convince viewers that his films lack heart, but I would argue that the heart of his work lies within the creative process itself and his passion for telling these kinds of stories, not necessarily in the relatability/human-ness of his characters. With Asteroid City, he is visually, thematically, and spiritually at the top of his game.
