Ikiru 1952
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Ikiru is my favorite film of all time. I consider it essential viewing, not just for cinephiles or Kurosawa fans, but for all of humanity. I couldn’t imagine myself without this film, and I feel sorry for those who will never see it. Why?
Because Ikiru is a film about living. About finding real and profound purpose. About happiness.Akira Kurosawa once said “In all my films, there's three or maybe four minutes of real cinema."

Touki Bouki 1973
TW: lots of graphic animal cruelty. Definitely avoid this film if you don’t wanna see that (which is totally fair)
A post-colonialist tragedy rendered through beautiful poetic images. About the desperate, but ultimately futile, effort to escape the world you’ve seemingly been trapped in. Like an animal trying to escape its oncoming slaughter. No doubt a challenging film, but perhaps a necessary one…(except mabye all the animal violence)Translated from by -
Divided Heaven 1964
Watched for class. Well shot, but entirely void of emotion or intrigue. Outside of representing East German propaganda, this did absolutely nothing for me.

Paper Moon 1973
A film about finding love and friendship within the empty American wasteland. A film where the “father” has just as much (if not more) to learn from his daughter, as she has to learn from him. A film about two people who, although they may deny it, complete each other in some strange way. It’s also just a whole lot of fun. Good for a lot of laughs, and a few tears.

Mickey 17 2025
Bong is playing fast and loose here. Making for a film that occasionally lacks focus, but makes up for it with a great sense of humor, and delightfully over the top satire. Pattinson disappears into his role, Mickey unironically might be one of his best characters. Visually breathtaking, while this film isn’t nearly as prestigious as Parasite or Memories of Murder, it’s really clear that Bong is a master of his craft.
