  I'm a huge lanthimos fan but to be generous, this film hints at his potential and not a great deal else. nearly plotless and lacking dialogue for almost all of its 90 or so minutes, it is clearly interested in film as escapism and performative construction of identity, but these ideas are explored much more clearly and effectively in his later Greek films. it plods along at a glacial pace, the acting is inscrutable--even more than is typical for lanthimos-- and I found myself checking to see how much time was left more than once.

  Shin Godzilla 2016

  the creepiest, most alien godzilla imaginable. the cgi is a little rough sometimes, the few moments of English acting are objectively terrible, and it sags a bit in the 3rd act, but those are quibbles. feels like "contagion" if the virus was a vengeful God.
