Steven Spielberg hasn’t always been a director I’ve fully trusted to take on a project of this scale. Yes, his track record is undeniably great and he’s often regarded as one of cinema’s greatest, but personally I’ve never seen his work to be considered as the pinnacle of cinema, as ignorant as that may sound.
