In film school, I was taught to avoid narration/montage for driving the narrative as much as possible and the consequences weren’t truly visualized until I watched a movie as narration heavy as Casino. After an hour, all the scenes began to blend into each other because most scenes followed the same structure of heavy narration followed by brief snippets of dialogue. I didn’t build as much empathy for the characters as the narration created space between the character and me.…
