Watching Petite Maman felt like I was reliving moments from my childhood. Sciamma perfectly depicts the wonder and melancholy of an eight year old girl as the world is portrayed through her lens. At a time when I had been grieving the childlike sense of wonderment, approaching each day with anticipation and eagerness, the inquisitiveness such that Nelly had when she developed the theories about her life seeking out more depth than its apparent mundanity, all that had been either lost or decimated immensely this watch was an unexpected tearjerker and the film deeply resonated with me.
