Love a response to bourgeois patriarchy that's just 'do hot shit with your friends, take advantage of rich men, make weird art and engorge yourself on decadent food'

You Were Never Really Here 2017
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I keep thinking about that scene where Joe lies on the floor next to the man who may have just murdered his mother after he fatally wounds the man and they hold hands and mumble along to 'I've Never Been To Me' while the man bleeds out. And then the scene just ends.

Amazing and fun and felt kind of sensual in a different way. It reminded me of Fever Ray's comments last year about how discourse around kinkiness is dominated (pardon) by bondage, but a tea party could be just as kinky to someone else, and I think something similar can be said for avant garde filmmaking. Maybe it's just a gaze that's new to me, but I loved it.

Somewhere between a Murakami story and a Sufjan song. Heartbreaking and touching. Intimate commentary on the emotional responsibility we have towards those around us. Incredibly beautiful photography and colours and lighting, and amazing performances.
